The JP Morgan Sevens returns on Friday, this time pool B is in the lime light where Edgely Park, Stockport will host Sale Sharks rugby for the final time before they move to their new Salford base. Youth takes centre stage this week, with Northampton, Leicester and hosts Sale all naming fairly young squads without too many household names.
Sale, coached by Peter Anglesea, will feature a few recognisable premiership names with the likes of Mark Easter, Will Addison, Jonny Leota, Will Cliff, Tom Brady and former England Sevens international Charlie Amesbury.
Northampton have no recognised premiership names in their squad though half a dozen of them—Ethan Waller, Darrel Dyer, Tom Collins, Ryan Glynn, Alex Day and Anders Mogensen—represented Northampton in last year’s tournament.
Leicester will be captained by returning centre Matt Cornwell who rejoins the club after spells with Exeter, Northampton and Italian side Mogliano. He will lead yet another inexperienced squad with Alex Lewington and Andy Symons adding LV cup experience to the squad.
London Welsh looks perhaps as though they will be favourites on paper, along with hosts Sale. Former England Sevens and Sale Sharks player Michael Hills will captain the side, Rhodri McAtee has played for Wales Sevens and Gerhard Vessels is another seasoned sevens performer.
